“The Car-Magnet Effect”

While everyone recognizes the puzzle-piece clad bumper stickers advocating for autism awareness, how much does anyone really know about the disorders that fall under the autism spectrum?  Jimmy Wittmer coined the phrase “The Car-Magnet Effect” in reference to the fact that the prevalence of autism is huge (and growing), but not many people really know much about it.  Our goal is to personally learn more about autism through our encounters with autism center administrators, parents, students, and anyone else we may meet; blog about our experiences; and help to better educate those who may not know much about autism spectrum disorders.  While bumper stickers are a great way to spread awareness for autism, we believe that educating ourselves and sharing that knowledge with others is the best way to really support those families who have been affected by autism.
